Upper Cervical Specific Chiropractic
at Roots Chiropractic

upper cervical adjustment on a patientAt Roots Chiropractic, we use a very specific chiropractic technique called Upper Cervical Specific Chiropractic. Upper Cervical care focuses on the top two bones of the neck, called atlas (C1) and axis (C2), which surround the brainstem. Some functions of the brainstem include heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, temperature, sleeping, digestion, and much more. Every piece of information communicated between the brain and body must pass through the brainstem.

We are one of a select few chiropractic practices in the East Valley to offer Knee Chest Upper Cervical. We also offer Toggle Recoil.

State-of-the-Art Care

Upper Cervical chiropractors use advanced technology to know when, where, and how to adjust a client. At our office, we use digital X-rays to visualize and determine exactly how the vertebrae have moved. This allows your doctor to be as specific as possible, leaving nothing to guesswork or chance. If you think of the vertebra as a lock, the X-rays allow the doctor to know exactly what adjustment, or key, should be used to open that lock.

We also use thermography, which is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that tells us when you need to be adjusted. This FDA-approved scanning device evaluates the function of your nervous system by reading deep heat beneath the skin, which is controlled by the brainstem.

The balance of heat on each side of the spine is a relative indication of symmetry of the nervous system. An imbalance of heat from one side of the spine to the other indicates an interference within the nervous system, meaning an adjustment is needed. At our practice, we use Tytron Thermography, which uses infrared technology rather than radiation.

After receiving your Upper Cervical adjustment, you will relax in a Human Touch® zero-gravity chair for about 15 minutes. This allows the adjustment to hold longer, optimizing results. In our modern world, we are constantly on the move and bombarded with stress. The last thing we want is for you to move back into that state of stress immediately after your adjustment! So kick your feet up in our zero-gravity chairs for a few minutes and experience what your relaxed nervous system feels like.

We want to help your body hold your adjustment longer, so you do not need to come into the office as often. We accomplish this with specific adjustments, the objective measures mentioned above, and relaxing after your adjustment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Upper Cervical Specific Chiropractic different?

Upper Cervical Specific Chiropractic focuses on the top two bones of the neck, called atlas (C1) and axis (C2). A difference you may notice is the use of objective measures to determine when and when not to adjust. Our goal is for your body to maintain alignment, so you don’t need to receive adjustments as frequently. After receiving an Upper Cervical Specific adjustment, you will relax in a zero-gravity chair to rest and allow the adjustment to hold longer. Another difference you may notice is the lack of twisting and rotational forces to the neck.

Do you adjust only the neck, or other areas too?

Dr. Lauren and Dr. Michael focus on the top two bones of the neck, but they are also extensively trained in adjusting the full spine and extremities. Many clients find that adjustments to either atlas (C1) or axis (C2) can alleviate symptoms they are experiencing in other areas of the body. However, in some cases, it is clinically necessary to adjust different bones of the spine or extremities.
